Allegory Riesling

Allegory Riesling

Allegory Riesling – Lovely lemon in colour, the MadFish Riesling holds lime zest, citrus blossom and green skin pear aromas. The flavours are citrus, apples and pears with a soft stone/ mineral acidity that keeps the flavours long lasting and fresh. We recommend pairing our MadFish Riesling with BBQ’d seafood on a warm summer evening. If it’s too cool to sit outside, then try it with citrus cured trout, tuna poke or fish tacos.

Allegory Riesling grows in the Great Southern wine region of Western Australia. This climate is called “continental” and is characterized by long cold winters, warm summers and not a lot of rainfall. Being away from the coast, the difference between the day time and night time temperature is greater than in a region closer to the coast. Riesling seems to like these conditions.

Winemakers say Riesling is tough to make because there is nowhere to hide. It’s just you and the grapes, no oak, no malo, no tricks…

When we make Riesling we strive to preserve and showcase clean, bright citrus and apple, fruit flavours. Sometimes the acidity can be a little high so leaving a bit of sugar at the end of the fermentation gives a nice drinking balance – not too sweet and not too sour – just right .

The family owned business started in 1986 with the label Howard Park, its roots deeply imbedded in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. Today Howard Park sources fruit for its iconic wines from family owned vineyards throughout Leston and Allingham vineyards in Margaret River, and Mt Barrow and Abercrombie vineyards in the Great Southern.

Allegory

Allegory is a range of expressive varietal wines that showcases the elegance and vibrancy typical of Western Australia. They are made by Howard Park, a family-owned winery founded in 1986, and one of the state’s best respected producers. Howard Park have a unique combined expertise in both the Margaret River and Great Southern regions, and by carefully blending selected parcels of fruit from each, they allow Allegory to capture the essence of Western Australia.

Western Australia

The largest region in Western Australia and has four sub-regions, Albany, Frankland River, Mount Barker and Porongurup. As with Margaret River the suitability of this region for premium quality wines was as a result of two research reports from Californian viticulturalist Professor Harold Olmo and the Western Australian scientist Dr John Gladstone in the 50s and 60s and the ongoing enthusiasm of Bill Jamison, the Western Australia’s state viticulturaist at the time. In 1965 there were experimental plantings at Forest Hill. Further trials took place and by 1972 the first harvest was sent to Houghtons and Sandalford for winemaking by Jack Mann and his son Dorham. What transpired was development that gained momentum in the 70’s and accelerated in the 80’s. The climate is maritime influenced Mediterranean, with significant differences reflected between the sub-regions. The main wine styles: Red – Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir; White – Riesling, and Chardonnay.
