Bethany Semillon

Bethany Semillon

Bethany Semillon is crafted by fifth generation Schrapel family winemakers.
Vintage Comments:
A traditionally wet winter, mild spring and excellent fruit set provided a great start to the 2015 vintage. Spring was drier and had warmer days than average, meaning the vines got away to a good healthy start.
In the second week of January 60—75mm of rain fell, which kept vines healthy and grapes ripening. In fact the ripening conditions were perfect, resulting in fruit with higher natural acidity, and incredible flavour and colour concentration.

Winemaker’s Report:
Grapes were crushed soon after they were picked in the night. The juice was cold settled for three days before going through controlled fermentation for 14 days at 12-15 degrees in stainless steel using a yeast selected to enhance mouth feel and flavour. It was matured in stainless steel on lees for 12 months to increase complexity and softness. The wine was then transferred to French oak hogsheads to gain more complexity before being bottled early to retain fresh fruit characters.
Vineyard Notes:
The fruit is sourced from the Schrapel family vineyards along the Barossa foothills. The vineyards are traditionally hand rod & spur pruned to 70 buds per vine to regulate and promote balanced growth. Vines are grown in red brown earth with a limestone subsoil.
