Four Pillars Spiced Negroni Gin

Four Pillars Spiced Negroni Gin

Four Pillars Spiced Negroni Gin

In response to a request for a gin that cuts through the campari and vermouth, something spicy, fragrant and ballsy. The distillers suggestion was steaming fresh blood oranges and ginger in the botanical basket, combined with more spice from cinnamon, pepper berries and grains of paradise. And here we have a gin which meets the criteria, designed for the bartender.

This gin was originally the result of a conversation between Cameron (our distiller) and Jason (then Manager of Sydney bars including The Rook and one of the World’s Top Ten Bartenders) back in 2014 – they wanted to create a gin specifically for the Negroni. Something to cut through the Campari and vermouth. And as the Negroni has always been a favourite at Four Pillars, Cameron jumped at the chance to make the first collaboration in our Bartender Series a tribute to the Negroni.
Four Pillars Spiced Negroni Gin is a highly aromatic, rich and (yes) spicy gin with great power and intensity. First, we took our base botanicals and upped the amount of Tasmanian pepperberry leaf and cinnamon. Then we added an exotic West African spice called Grains of Paradise. This is one of the most unusual spices in the world, with clove and sichuan characters. But although very powerful, the spice tends to glow rather than become hot.
We also decided to use beautiful organic blood oranges in the botanical basket, as well as some ginger. These wonderfully fragrant fresh botanicals help lift the spice to another level. Finally, we opened up the plates to add weight and intensity to the gin.
We’re pleased to announce our Spiced Negroni Gin has been awarded Master status at the Global Gin Masters two years in a row (2017 and 2018).

Victoria

Victoria is a small state in area, but home to possibly the largest number of wineries in Australia, most of them which are small family-run operations. Victoria’s diverse topography, combining numerous mountain ranges, like the Grampians and the Victorian Pyrenees throughout the centre; flat plains in the northeast; and hilly, ocean-cooled reaches in the Melbourne area, make its vineyards amongst the most scenic in Australia. An enormous range of wine styles are available, and virtually every varietal flourishes in some part of the state.
