Grosset Alea Riesling

Grosset Alea Riesling

After fourteen vintages, the ‘European’ approach adopted for this individual-site wine is more subtle. Mild seasonal conditions have resulted in a bright and expressive Alea – the aromatics are pronounced with suggestions of preserved lemon and while almost bone-dry, is complex and perfectly balanced. It has freshness, mid-palate intensity, purity and finesse, finishing at full throttle with lime juice at its core.

Ageing Potential: Drink now – 20 years

Produced from riesling grown at the Grosset Rockwood Vineyard, an A-Grade Certified Organic and Biodynamic (ACO) vineyard.

Unfined- vegan and vegetarian friendly

Grosset Wines is a small family-run operation entering its fifth decade. The unwavering vision is to create pure expressions of variety and place.  Our four estate-owned vineyards, A-Grade Certified Organic and Biodynamic (ACO), are located in high altitude country of the Clare Valley, each site selected for its potential to produce great wine and planted by Grosset. Each is handpicked and hand pruned; each bunch of grapes harvested at optimum ripeness.

Production is tiny. Single vineyard wines are the focus. The winemaking process is gentle and uncomplicated. Custodianship remains with Grosset Wines from grape growing to in-house bottling; authenticity is assured.

The A-Grade Certified Organic and Biodynamic Vineyards and Winery (ACO) status means that Grosset Wines meets strict standards set by ACO (Australian Certified Organics). These standards can be a far cry from ‘an organic approach’ or ‘following organic principles’ – claims which tend to be self-determined and unconfirmed.

They believe that certification is just the beginning…by improving plant and insect diversity and complexity, the vineyard is literally, ‘coming to life’. This makes the vineyards not only a joy to work in or visit, but the pristine nature of the fruit means unimpeded expression of variety and place: put more simply, better wine!

Producer: Colour: WhiteGrape: AustralianRegion: South Australia, Clare ValleyAlcohol: 12.3%Vintage: 2022Grape Details: RieslingFood: The wine shows restrained aromatics - just a hint of white flowers and a whisper of lime juice. Soft and plump, yet still tight, fine and mouth-puckering. There is some slatey minerally savouriness on a tight palate and refreshing, cleansing acidity that leaves a fine hint of lingering sweetness.SKU: GROSS06

Grosset

“Grosset Wines is an independently owned winery set in the Clare Valley producing just six highly regarded premium wines each vintage.
The first vintage was in 1981, after which Jeff Grosset has almost single-handedly been responsible for the renaissance of Clare Riesling. His Polish Hill Riesling, one of the world’s great examples of this variety, stands out as Australia’s finest Riesling.”

South Australia

Vineyards were first established in the mid 1800s. Some of the early winery names, Wendouree, Knappstein and Quelltaler are still in the region. Nowadays there is a mix of very large companies and a significant number of boutique wineries. The climate is regarded as warm, but there are variations due to altitude. The main wine styles: White – Riesling, Semillon, Chardonnay; Red – Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon.
