Innocent Bystander Moscato

Innocent Bystander Pink Moscato

Innocent Bystander Moscato – Italian moscato has been a big hit in Australia, inspiring local wine-makers to produce their own. Innocent Bystander, made from Murray Valley gordo and black muscat, is one of the best. The super-fresh, rose-pink wine is like a mouthful of crushed muscatels, with a spritz of gas and zesty acidity adding zip. Delicious.

The Yarra Valley is the home and where it all began for Innocent Bystander. It has a wine history that dates back well over 100 years, however it’s reputation has been cemented in the last 15 years, largely thanks to the fantastic Pinot Noir and Chardonnay produced here. It’s the soils, climate and the combination of cool mountainside vineyards and warmer, valley floor sites that provide the diversity and complexity of flavours and aromas that make the Yarra Valley wines so spectacular.
While at home in the valley they also love a few styles of wine that don’t grow so well around here. When that happens they look elsewhere to get the best grapes they can. That means they get to make fresh, bright King Valley Prosecco and luscious Swan Hill Moscato as well as taking juicy parcels of Tempranillo from Heathcote and zesty King Valley Pinot Gris.

Their winemaking philosophy is simple, take the fantastic grapes they’ve harvested and let their exceptional qualities mature through careful nurturing. So, what does that mean in the winery? Well, that depends on the wine, the reds are treated to gentle fermentations in open top fermenters, this might include a portion of whole bunch or wild yeast ferment. The whites may be pampered with a relaxing spell in mature oak and gentle lees stirring to really show their depth of character.

Innocent Bystander

“Innocent Bystander is a Yarra Valley based winery producing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir alongside several emerging varietals including Pinot Gris, Moscato, Sangiovese & cool climate grown Shiraz. The label first came about when the Giant Steps team decided to produce wines from the many brilliant vineyards they came across in the Yarra Valley and beyond.
A visit to the winery in Healesville`s main street is a fascinating experience. Built around gravity flow principles and designed for hand making small batches of wine, the winery is an exercise in function over form, much like the strongly expressed views of its owners and winemaking team.
These are approachable, drinkable wines that deliver abundant fruit flavour – their winemakers like to think of them as “a bloody good drink!” “

Yarra Valley

Victoria is a small state in area, but home to possibly the largest number of wineries in Australia, most of them which are small family-run operations. Victoria’s diverse topography, combining numerous mountain ranges, like the Grampians and the Victorian Pyrenees throughout the centre; flat plains in the northeast; and hilly, ocean-cooled reaches in the Melbourne area, make its vineyards amongst the most scenic in Australia. An enormous range of wine styles are available, and virtually every varietal flourishes in some part of the state.
