Jansz Tasmanian Sparkling Bundle

Jansz Tasmanian Sparkling Bundle

One bottle each of Jansz Rose NV, Jansz non vintage and Jansz Vintage in one special bundle

The name Jansz pays homage to Tasmania’s namesake, the Dutch explorer Abel Jansz Tasman, who was the first European to sight the island in 1642. In 1982 the region’s likeness to Champagne and Burgundy captured the attention of Heemskerk Wines and the Champagne house Louis Roederer. Together they embarked on the production of a premium vintage Australian sparkling wine.

Jansz Tasmania is a luxury sparkling wine house, solely devoted to the art of sparkling winemaking since 1986.

Location is integral to growing outstanding fruit and only Tasmania can boast such idyllic conditions. Put simply, it is the perfect place to craft premium sparkling wines.

By allowing nature to do the work, our wines are naturally expressive of our Tasmanian home and its pure, pristine environment.

Tasmania is unquestionably the nation’s premier sparkling wine region. The island’s pristine environment, cool climate and rich soils combine to create ideal growing conditions for naturally elegant, intensely flavoured and aromatic wines, with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir the region’s most renowned varieties.

While Tasmania’s first commercial vineyard plantings date back to 1865, most were short lived. There has been a resurgence since the late 1970s, and there is a real sense that this extraordinary winegrowing region is only just beginning to realise its full potential.

The Jansz Tasmania vineyard, which is now owned by the Hill-Smith family, sits to the north-east of the island state within the Pipers River region of the Tamar Valley. This cool little corner is colloquially known as ‘Sparkling Tasmania’. Temperatures here are moderated by its close proximity to Bass Strait. The ocean breezes keep the temperature up during Winter – minimising risk of frost – and down in Summer, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and develop intense, delicate and refined flavours. Resting on a bed of pure, red, free-draining basalt soil, the Jansz vineyard is truly the perfect site to grow grapes for world-class sparkling wines.

The climatic conditions of the Jansz vineyard rival the famed French wine region of Champagne. In fact, it was originally with French contribution that Jansz became Tasmania’s first sparkling made using the traditional Méthode.
Today we call it, Méthode Tasmanoise. It’s the essence of a partnership between the environment and our winemaker. Just as the cool Tasmanian climate creates spectacular beauty in nature, it is also instrumental in the creation of art in bottles.

It could be argued we’re completely mad growing grapes in the wild and unforgivingly cold Tasmanian environment. But there’s méthode to our madness.

The Jansz Tasmania vineyard sits to the northeast of the island state within the Pipers River region of the Tamar Valley. This cool little corner is colloquially known as ‘Sparkling Tasmania’.
Temperatures here are moderated by close proximity to Bass Strait. The ocean breezes keep the temperature up during winter – minimising risk of frost, and down in summer – allowing our grapes to ripen slowly and develop intense, delicate and refined flavours.

Jansz Premium NV Cuvée

Jansz Premium NV Cuvée

Tasmania is renowned as Australia’s home of great sparkling wines. The fruit used in this Jansz Premium NV Cuvée is grown on selected, cool climate vineyards across Tasmania.
To maximize blending options and complexity in the final wine, batches are kept separate during winemaking. Secondary fermentation takes place in the bottle and is aged on yeast lees for as long as possible. The perfect balance for our Premium Cuvée is reached at just over two years.
Honeysuckle and citrus scents are immediately apparent with slight aromas of nougat, roasted nuts and a hint of strawberry from the Pinot Noir. A well-balanced palate of delicate fruits and creaminess fills the mouth with a lingering finish of citrus and nougat.

The Jansz Premium NV Cuvée is based upon Jansz wines of several vintages with specially selected and crafted individual batches from the cooler locations in South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria, with the largest regional parcels being Tasmanian. The matching of the crisp and fine flavours has resulted in a structured wine of medium body with zesty fruit characters.

Tasting  NoteAromas of honeysuckle, citrus zest and fresh strawberries from the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir fruit. Extended time on lees during secondary fermentation contributes to more complex aromas of nougat and roasted nuts. The palate is balanced with delicate fruit flavour, fine creamy texture and refreshing natural acidity.
Best Enjoyed With A perfect match with natural oysters drizzled with any of our cuvées (instead of lemon) or fritto misto with lemon aioli.
Treatment Handpicking, gentle whole bunch pressing, cool fermentation, 100% malolactic fermentation, complex assemblage and extended ageing on lees after bottle fermentation, all combine to produce a stylish and complex wine.

“Just three words describe the thinking behind Jansz Tasmania. Time. Patience. Discipline.
The wine embraces all three in equal measure. Time, patience and discipline spent nurturing the vines and their precious fruit. Time, patience and discipline awaiting the perfect moment for picking. Time, patience and discipline in the winery as years are devoted to making the wine with painstaking care and attention.
The vineyards lie in the Tamar Valley along the Northern Tasmanian route at the heart of Tasmania’s Pipers River region, an area known worldwide as “”Sparkling Tasmania””. With a mantle of red basalt soils and a cool climate moderated by its close proximity to the ocean, it is ideal for the slow ripening of fruit and lingering acidity so essential to the production of premium sparkling wine. In fact, the area’s climate so resembled Champagne and Burgundy that several leading French Champagne houses considered basing new operations there.”
