Bremerton Tamblyn CSM

Bremerton Tamblyn CSM

Tamblyn is named after the Willson family’s ancestors who migrated to Australia from Cornwall.
The Tamblyn blend expresses the characteristics of the different varietals, producing a complex flavour profile with a soft tannin finish; Cabernet Sauvignon provides the framework, Shiraz adds berry fruit weight, Malbec adds a perfumed lift and intense colour and the Merlot rounds out the palate. 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Shiraz, 11% Malbec and 6% Merlot.

The components for Tamblyn were individually fermented in open top fermenters which allowed for optimal extraction of colour and flavour. The wine was matured in a combination of new and old French and American barrels for 18 months before blending and bottling.

The winemaking team headed by family winemaker Rebecca Willson has taken the quality of our wines to new standards.
Rebecca seeks the best possible fruit from our own and other specialised Langhorne Creek vineyards to craft traditional, full bodied, full flavoured, mouth filling Langhorne Creek wines that show a consistency of style whilst encouraging the true varietal grape characteristics to be expressed.
The winery has invested heavily in a premium French & Amercian oak program using 220 litre barriques to ensure subtle and complementary oak influences. The winery utilises tradtional open top fermenters, made from stainless steel and a purpose built barrel cellar for maturation. New laboratory and tasting facilities are part of the winery.

Franklin Estate Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

Franklin Estate Semillon Sauvignon

Franklin Estate Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

Both the Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon fruit for this wine were harvested on a cool March evening and processed under inert conditions to retain aromatic varietal characters.
The Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon were processed individually with some skin contact in the grape press. Following settling, the wines were racked and inoculated for ferment in stainless steel vessels. A combination of yeasts were used to enhance the varietal characters and to produce fresh, fruity, clean wines. The ferments were held at a cool temperature around 11-12°C and lasted on average for 14 days. This cooler fermentation temperature also allows for the preservation of fruit aromas and flavours. After a few weeks on yeast lees, the wines were racked off lees and the individual components assessed and blended.
The final blend was given a light fining before being filtered and prepared for bottling.

Thistledown Great Escape Chardonnay

Thistledown Great Escape Chardonnay

.Thistledown Great Escape Chardonnay

The Great Escape is our benchmark, cool climate Chardonnay produced from fruit grown in elevated vineyard sites which allow for a long ripening period which helps to maintain the natural sugar and acid balance of the grape. With moderate alcohol, focussed, crisp citrus fruit and a mouthwatering finish, this is an accomplished, truly modern style of this noble variety.

Vintage Conditions

Another dry season, no doubt influenced by El Niño, saw McLaren Vale and the Barossa have a very early, condensed harvest but up in the Hills, it was almost the perfect season. Much improved fruit set led to a healthy crop load wth even bunches that ripened gradually through February’s perfect conditions. Looking to retain natural acidity and energy in the wine, we hand-picked in two vineyards over the course of 10 days with the end result being some of the most pristine fruit we have witnessed.

Winemaking

As with all of our wines, the winemaking process is a gentle one with the intention of preserving the natural flavours of the wine while at the same time building layers of texture.

Fruit is picked in the cool of the early morning and goes directly to press where the free run juice is run off to tank to settle. We retain a relatively high level of solids in the ferment – half of which is done in tank with regular movement of lees and half is done in used French hogsheads with regular “battonage” of the lees to build flavour and texture. We do not encourage malolactic as we want to pre

Paulett Polish River Shiraz

Paulett Polish River Shiraz

Paulett Polish River Shiraz

2015 Vintage was almost certainly the earliest and shortest on record, both yields and quality have been above average in most circumstances. A dry and mild spring lead into a mild early summer and it wasn’t until February that “normal” summer conditions really emerged. A very welcome 75mm of rain was received in the second week of January, and this certainly assisted in filling out berry size and maintaining good canopy and leaf condition which in turn really helped bring the vintage to a better-than-expected conclusion.

Since the first vintage in 1983 there have been many accolades received from within Australia and internationally including the great 1995 vintage winning both the Top Riesling at the Hyatt/Advertiser awards and Best Riesling in the Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide. The 2005 Aged Release Riesling won ‘Best Riesling in the World’, at the 2010 Canberra International Riesling Challenge . When asked about these accolades Neil said “This kind of recognition against all-comers is particularly rewarding however there is just as much of a thrill walking into a restaurant seeing people enjoying a bottle of our wine”.
Pauletts reputation for producing wines of finesse, elegance and intensity is justly earned and their skill and care can be seen consistently from vintage to vintage. Neil has a craftsman’s sensibilities coupled with over 40 years experience making wine – and it all shows. The current release wines have a touch more roundness and generosity than previously and it’s these subtle on-going improvements that have kept Pauletts at the forefront of Australian wine.

Heartland Wine Spice Trader

Heartland Wine Spice Trader

This is a rich, ripe Shiraz-Cab blend from Langhorne Creek in South Australia. The nose opens with aromas of cola, plums, olive and ground black pepper backed by hints of mint and vanillin oak. The palate is bold, plush and sweet-fruited, with chunky oak that shows up particularly on the finish.

The Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon are fermented separately with specific parcels included for their ability to offer greater complexity and character. Time in barrel permits a softening of the wine’s structure. It also offers a complex expression of the fruit and helps the exotic notes of spice to be discovered.

This is a very dark glass of juicy and delicious red. A burst of intense primary fruit greets the palate with blueberries, blackberries and currants. These powerful fruit notes can engulf the uninitiated, but waves of spice can be discovered by seasoned flavour explorers.

Good winter rainfall provided cover crops for a moisture retaining mulch throughout the dry spring and summer. The lack of rainfall over the growing period led to lower yields. Summer saw mostly cool temperatures and an early vintage with most of the region’s fruit off by early April. The Langhorne Creek wine region benefits from cooling afternoon breezes from Lake Alexandrina and this season was no exception. The welcome breezes helped keep overnight temperatures down, enabling fruit to maintain natural acidity.

Today, the Heartland winery produces only red wines and Langhorne Creek is the only area where the winery gets its grapes from.
Located at just about an hour’s drive away from Adelaide, Langhorne Creek is one of the most ancient wine regions in Australia. Some of the country’s oldest and lesser-known viticulture methods are employed for growing the vines here. The southerly-wind dominated climate and alluvial-rich sandy loam soil are two of the main reasons for the full character and flavour of the grapes grown here. Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and their related blends are the common varietals grown here.
