Penfolds Koonunga Hill Seventy Six Shiraz Cabernet

Penfolds Koonunga Hill Seventy Six Shiraz Cabernet

Penfolds Koonunga Hill Seventy Six Shiraz Cabernet is a winemaking tribute to the original and now legendary 1976 Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet . A wine of intense character reminiscent of the original. Dark black fruits combine seamlessly with chocolate and olive flavours and with silky tannins.

Since its inception, Penfolds Koonunga Hill has always aimed to deliver quality, value and consistency. The original 1976 Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet is a legendary wine that is still drinking well today. A perennial favourite at Penfolds Re-corking Clinics and at auction, collectors highly value its quality and longevity. Koonunga Hill Seventy Six is a multi-regional South Australian blend of Shiraz and Cabernet, a wine style that has played a pivotal role in Australia’s rich winemaking history.

A generous, substantial wine replete with a Coonawarra/Cabernet line structurally offering definition & length. Quince and fig fruits consort with a rhubarb acidity and tannins right across the palate further energized by a V.A. lift. Oak contribution? Sort of…; Sorry, understated & supportive.

Penfolds

“Penfolds is unquestionably one of the top wine companies in the world in terms of quality, product range and consistency.
The quality of Penfolds’ red wines is simply world-class; with their flagship wine, Penfolds Grange, without doubt Australia’s greatest red wine & also recognised as one of the worlds’ finest.”

South Australia

South Australia is the largest wine producing state of Australia. It may be surprising to most that the Riverland region is the state’s largest grape producing area. The Barossa Valley is famed for its full-bodied, rich, ripe and generous reds. The Coonawarra is internationally renowned for its Cabernet Sauvignon (and prized ‘terra rossa’ soils). Padthaway, McLaren Vale, and the Clare Valley all make major contributions, and the importance of the Adelaide Hills is rapidly increasing.

Shiraz Blends

Blend Australia’s finest fleshy fruity grape variety with other grape varieties results in some wonderful wines.
