Beresford Bell Tower Merlot

On the nose there are notes of red cherries and mulberries, with hints of herb and spices. This opens on the palate to very fruity and approachable dark mulberries with fresh plum fruit flavours. A wine of balanced structure, elegance and power.

BELL TOWER MERLOT

REGION McLaren Vale
Situated approximately 35km south of Adelaide, McLaren Vale was first established as a grape-growing region in 1838. Warm summers, moderate winters, dominant
winter rain and low humidity characterize its Mediterranean climate. The region is renowned for producing Merlot of great elegance, structure and power.
COLOUR Bright red cherry
BOUQUET Lifted cherry and mulberry characters with hints of herb and spice notes
PALATE A thick sweet round entry, very approachable with dark mulberry and fresh plum fruit flavours.
WINEMAKING Grapes are picked on both colour and flavour development, then crushed and fermented for 7-10 days at approximately 20 degrees. Small open top fermenters
are used with hand pumping over and returns to ensure optimum extraction of tannins and colour. The ferment is then softly pressed using an airbag press, so we
do not extract the bitter tannin, producing a fruit driven style of wine. Once pressed the wine is allowed to go through natural malolactic fermentation. Further
complexity is added by maturation in French and American oak for 9-12 months.

South Australia

The McLaren Vale is predominately a red wine region, producing some of the best red wines in South Australia. Vineyards were first planted in the mid 1800s. One of the early pioneers Thomas Hardy established a business that evolved to BRL Hardy, one of the largest wine companies in the country. The region also has a healthy number of boutique wineries that consistently make fine wines and experiment with different wine styles. The climate is warm to hot with dry summers, and benefits from cooling breezes from the St Vincent Gulf. The main wine styles: Red – Shiraz (rich, ripe & generous), Cabernet Sauvignon; White – Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc.
