Vinaceous Voodoo Moon

Vinaceous Voodoo Moon Malbec

Vinaceous Voodoo Moon

With Margaret River showing such propensity with Cabernet and Cab-Merlot blends, it make sense that this ‘lesser’ Bordeaux grape would do well here too. From a single vineyard in Wilyabrup, the fruit is basket pressed and matured for 15 months in French and American oak barriques, 25% new. This gives a rich, weighty palate of dense bramble fruit, softly textured tannins and a long chocolatey finish. Cool label too.

The 2016 Vinaceous Voodoo Moon Malbec is our fifth vintage of this exciting varietal. Sourced from a single vineyard in the sub-region of Wilyabrup, Margaret River from mature vines, the Voodoo Moon used traditional winemaking techniques to achieve full colour and extraction. The wine is matured in 100% French oak barriques for 12-15 months before final blending is completed by Michael Kerrigan and Nick Stacy. The resulting wine is dark, deep purple in colour and has a brooding and perfumed bouquet. The palate is rich, layered and textured – really fills the mouth with its immense power and weight, but retains its finesse with long, soft integrated tannins. The Vinaceous Voodoo Moon will cellar and improve for 8 – 10 years, but equally appeals as an immediate drink – match with roast meats, braises and mature cheeses. Approximately 625 dozen produced.

Hand-picked, open fermented Malbec from Wilyabrup, Margaret River. Basket pressed into some 25% new oak barriques (French & American) to finish fermentation. 14 – 15 months maturation in the same oak. Vinified, fined, blended and bottled by Vinaceous Wines.
Famous as one of the traditional Bordeaux red grape varieties, Malbec is grown all over the world especially Argentina and now increasingly in Australia. Valued for its amazing depth of colour, generosity of fruit expression and fullness of flavour, Malbec has found the growing conditions of Margaret River ideally suited to producing full bodied wines of great depth and character – unsurprising considering the similar climatic conditions experienced by Bordeaux and Margaret River.

The Vinaceous Voodoo Moon will cellar and improve for 8 – 10 years, but equally appeals as an immediate drink – match with roast meats, braises and mature cheeses. Approximately 2,500 dozen produced.

Vinaceous

“Society scuttlebutt & innuendo has it, that he is either the illegitimate son of a famous crowned head of Europe or a poor Romany gypsy boy, made good. His time working as a lion tamer, explorer & roustabout has equipped Vinaceous with a sharp wit & discerning eye (& nose) for beautiful wine & beauteous women.
Vinaceous is the brain-child of wine marketer Nick Stacy and winemaker Michael Kerrigan. The Vinaceous concept is to produce seven distinctive wines representing seven personalities – men, women, angels, demons, mermaids… and other creatures of mythology! Vinaceous’ aim was to re-create this on the labels, focusing on fun & provocative imagery, based on theatrical/circus posters from the ’30s and ’40s; while the new ‘Burlesque’ Sparkling wine labels pays homage to the ribald dance & culture of this era . “

Margaret River

Regarded as one of Australia’s best wine producing regions. It is synonymous with a new era in Australian wine. Margaret River really began its vineyard life as a result of two research reports from Californian viticulturalist Professor Harold Olmo and the Western Australian scientist Dr John Gladstone. In 1965 Dr Gladstone’s report indicated that the region had all the attributes to produce world quality wines. This advise was acted on by Dr Tom Cullity who set up his Vasse Felix vineyard near Willyabrup, followed by Dr Kevin Cullen and his wife Di who set up Cullen Wines. The climate is regarded as ‘cool’ because of its long slow ripening season. This region is regarded along with Coonawarra and the Yarra Valley as one of the premium Cabernet Sauvignon areas in Australia. The main wine styles: Red – Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet-Merlot, Shiraz; White – Chardonnay, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc, Verdelho.
