How much does wine really cost ? What does the vineyard get ?

Some wine in the UK has been sold at the ridiculous price of £2.99. Whether the wine is to your taste or not, the £2.99 price tag is crazy.

£2.99 is £2.49 after the VAT is handed over to the government. Alcohol duty is £2.23 per bottle, leaving £0.26 for the winery, retailer, bottle, cork label etc etc.

The normal supermarket margin is 15% minimum. That is 37p.  Do the wineries pay the supermarkets to take the wine off their hands ?

Surely nobody is making money at this price.
