Trentham Estate Chardonnay

Trentham Estate Chardonnay – Light straw green with sweet peach and grilled citrus aromas complementing the soft, spicy oak on the nose. The generous palate offers hazelnut & nectarine with hints of spicy preserved lemon with a long and elegant finish. From Estate grown fruit, Trentham’s Chardonnay is shaped by the ripeness of the fruit at harvest and the technique of winemaking used.

Vintage Conditions

The region enjoyed a typical start to a warm and dry growing season with little rainfall in November and December, and average spring temperatures evolving into a near perfect summer growing cycle. The slightly lower yields have resulted in exceptional fruit ripeness and show an exquisite concentration of aromas and flavours. The overall season offered superb conditions for a range of varieties throughout the vineyards. Across the board, quality was outstanding.

Winemakers Notes

Once harvested, the fruit was crushed, pressed and clarified. The ferment was carried out with select yeast with a portion fermented in 500L French oak puncheons. After some ageing the wine was blended, stabilised,
clarified and bottled.

This family-owned boutique winery can be found along the meandering banks of the Murray River at Trentham Cliffs just outside Mildura in New South Wales. The winemaking philosophy at Trentham Estate has always been to produce high-quality varietal wines with an emphasis on full fruit flavour while offering fantastic value for money right across the range.
The Murphy family arrived in Australia in 1909 from Ireland and so are numbered among the Irish ‘Winegeese’ who, from the 18th century onwards, engaged in the wine trade in the countries of their adoption and were instrumental in the viticultural development of some of the finest wine-growing areas of the world. Today the many and illustrious wines and labels of the Winegeese have become synonymous with quality on the international market.
On trend with varietal plantings and never shy to try the untried, they recently achieved a 5* winery rating from James Halliday; the very first estate in the region to do so.

New South Wales Wines

Australia’s first vines were planted in New South Wales on the Farm Cove foreshore. The first commercial wine was made there, and the first wine exported to England – by Gregory Blaxland in 1823. Given the size and climate diversity of NSW and its large population, it is surprising that the state does not play a bigger role in Australian wine. It is a state of great contrasts, from the huge, flat expanse of irrigated vineyards in the Riverina area near Griffith to the high uplands of Mudgee in the north. The Hunter Valley is the most recognised region within NSW, famous for its long-lived Semillons and unique styled Shiraz. Riverina is the largest wine-producing region. The more recent viticultural developments are within the regions along the Great Dividing Range: Mudgee, Orange, Cowra, Hilltops etc. There is much promise and interest in the wines now being produced within these regions.

Australia’s most widely planted white grape variety. The heavily oaked styles of the earlier nineties are now being replaced with styles emphasising the regional fruit and greater complexity. The cooler climate regions producing styles of great elegance and finesse.
