Listening Station Chardonnay

Listening Station Chardonnay

Listening Station Chardonnay

istening Station Chardonnay is made from a Chardonnay clone that originates from Mendoza, this always shows prominent tangerine notes on the nose, and this vintage also shows intense grapefruit, lime and hints of spice. Refreshingly unoaked, citrus and white peach flavours combine with a zesty fresh acidity and a clean, bright and linear mineral finish.

PRODUCTION
The Victorian region has soils that are sandy loams deriving directly from granite and gneissic bedrocks. They are typically brown to red in colour. Fertility is moderate as are typical yields, grapes tend to be high in concentrated flavours. This Chardonnay clone has a distinctive tangerine peel character. Bright sunny days and cool nights allowed for exceptional flavour development. The wine is a clean crisp style with no malolactic fermentation or oak treatment. The result is an elegant wine with high natural acidity. Picked at night to ensure the cooler climate gives exceptional character to the whole terroir from the area and delivering a well rounded Chardonnay suitable for all occasions.
TASTING NOTE
Refreshingly unoaked, citrus and white peach flavours combine with a zesty fresh acidity and a clean, bright and linear mineral finish. The judicious addition of Langhorne Creek Chardonnay adds palate, weight and texture. Ultimately, this is a bright expression of a Victorian Chardonnay.
This bright and approachable style of Chardonnay is a great partner to a wide range of dishes, try with tempura fried vegetables, aromatic chicken salads or crispy Chinese pork.

Soldiers Block Shiraz

Soldiers Block Shiraz

Soldiers Block Shiraz – Delicate red fruit and herbal aromas open up to a palate of ripe mulberry and plum fruit. the fine grained tannin and vanilla from the oak, work in balance to deliver a wine of poise and elegance.

Soldiers Block Shiraz is sourced from ancient Victorian soils in order to achieve a wine with greater finesse, purity and structure as well as typical eucalypt flavours and saline finish associated with the area. Picked at night and crushed within an hour of picking before being sent to the fermentation tanks. The Shiraz grapes were fermented in temperature-controlled tanks maintained at 22 – 25ºC to avoid extracting any harsh tannins, with the fermentations pumped over to extract good colour. 20% of the final blend is barrel aged. The winemaker also added 5% Malbec at the end of the whole process – a sneaky technique that gives a mulberry fruit twist on the finish.

Bright, aromatic and juicy on the nose with just a touch of naughty bacon fat. True to the varietal, the tiny proportion of Malbec in this blend gives a flowery perfume. This vintage is our brightest, most dangerously drinkable Shiraz to date due to its fine, bright fruit and soft silky elegance.

Drink with Moroccan lamb tagine, roast vegetables and hard cheeses

Soumah Yarra Valley Chardonnay

Soumah Yarra Valley Chardonnay

Soumah Yarra Valley Chardonnay

A nose of toasted hazelnuts, cold butter and a slight struck-match lift over classic varietal stone-fruit notes. The palate is a delicious combo of hazelnuts, basil leaves, creme-fraiche acidity and the Mendoza-clone’s signature clementine tang with a taut, structured finish.

A fabulous value, contemporary Chardonnay made with great care and focus. Really has the balance between Australian joy and Old World
restraint for a really glorious glass of Chardonnay that shows contemporary Yarra Valley at its best.

Chardonnay was picked as early as possible to ensure a fresh line of citrus fruit and crisp natural acidity on the palate. Structure is developed in the wine by predominantly barrel fermenting the juice and allowing it to mature gracefully for eight months before bottling a wine with balanced weight and silky texture.

Food match – Barbecued baby squid on a bed of fragrant fresh fennel, basil, coriander and bay leaves, or for something a little heartier, earthy mushroom and taleggio risotto.

Situated an average of 120 metres above sea level, the vineyard is elevated above the valley floor. The ancient sandy-clay loams with broken sandstone shape the small yield and define the detail in these precise, focussed expressions of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Explorer Series Orange Muscat and Flora

Explorer Series Orange Muscat and Flora

Vibrant gold in colour, with lifted aromas of lemon, honey, spice and musk, through to a fresh and tangy palate with a zesty and balanced sweetness.

Vintage
The 2022 vintage was defined by a cool, wet spring and a mild, humid summer. Abundant rainfall led to disease pressure, demanding meticulous vineyard
management. Despite the challenges, the long ripening season yielded wines with bright acidity, elegant aromatics, and moderate alcohol levels.
Vineyard
Orange Muscat and Flora are two white grape varieties, little known or planted in Australia, that have been pioneered by Brown Brothers as part of their Explorer Series.
Orange Muscat, as the name suggests, is part of the Muscat family and hails from the Southeast of France. The variety is said to have derived its name from the golden hues
the grapes take when fully ripe and the strong aroma of orange blossom given off at vintage when the grapes are freshly crushed. Orange Muscat is the flavour
powerhouse, in this blend, bringing aromas of orange blossom and a fresh citrus zest to the palate. Flora is a crossing between the white varieties of Semillon and
Gewürztraminer. It produces a wine of fragrance, with nuances of ripe apricot and imparts texture and mouthfeel to the palate with a fresh acid backbone. The vines are
grown in the Mystic Park vineyard in Victoria, which is certified by Sustainable Winegrowing Australia.
Winemaking
The grapes were harvested at Baumé levels ranging from 15.0 to 16.0. The grapes were then vinified in stainless-steel tanks with selected yeasts at cool temperatures to
preserve the aromatics of the varieties. Fermentation was deliberately halted with an alcohol of under 10.0% and was bottled shortly after fermentation to retain the vibrancy

Producer Note
Brown Brothers is one of Australia’s leading family-owned wine companies. Based in Milawa, Victoria for over 130 years, it is the Brown family’s sense of adventure and
innovation has led them to where they are now: creating exciting new wines, pushing boundaries, and developing vineyards in some of the best regions in Australia. In 1989,
Brown Brothers celebrated 100 years of winemaking and established the ‘Kindergarten Winery’ a mini-sized winery where experimental and innovative wines can be made on
a smaller scale. In 2015, fourth generation Katherine Brown joined the winemaking team and became the first female winemaker in the family, working alongside award winning winemaker Cate Looney. For a company named Brown Brothers, today they are led by a team of eight women and two men. Their pioneering range of wines includes less known varieties such as Cienna and Tarrango and an alcohol-free duo
named ‘Zero’. They are members of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, and all their wines are precisely crafted, with care, attention and consistency.

Little Yering Pinot Noir

Little Yering Pinot Noir

Little Yering Pinot Noir

Rich and soft with vibrant, plush flavours of juicy cherries and pomegranate, along with a savoury and spicy lift. Cool-climate Pinot in a silky, approachable style.

Vintage
2021 was an excellent vintage. The cooler growing season, with perfect day and night temperatures allowed for lovely natural balance in the fruit. No manipulation from the vineyard crew was required: these types of vintages produce some of the best fruit the vineyard has seen.
Vineyard
Situated just 45 kilometres east of Melbourne, the Yarra Valley is a large and diverse cool-climate wine region. Its elevation spectacularly ranges from lows of 50m to heights of 1,250m, due to the influence of the Great Dividing Range. The region is characterised by significant rainfall during winter and spring, which helps to nourish the vines throughout the dry, but cool summers. The estate-grown Pinot Noir vines are between 15 to 25 years old and are planted in vineyards in Yarra Glen, Yering and Coldstream. Additional grower fruit comes from a very cold site in Mount Alexander. The vines are clones D-Clone and MV6, and are cane pruned and VSP trained, which suits the terroir made up of Duplex grey loam over yellow clay. The cooler site allows for excellent diurnal temperature shifts, which imbues the fruit with intense aromatics and natural, refreshing acidity.
Winemaking
This wine was made in a soft and approachable style. The grapes were fermented in a combination of Potter, Roto and open fermenters at controlled temperatures using selected yeasts to retain the purity and freshness of the cool-climate fruit. Following fermentation, the wine was matured in stainless steel tanks to retain the pure Pinot Noir characters.
Tasting Note

With vines being first planted in 1838 by Scottish-born Ryrie brothers, Yering Station was the first vineyard in Victoria State. The brothers acquired 17,400 hectares and planted two grape varieties at the time -‘Black Cluster’ and ‘Sweet Water’. In 1850, the site was sold to a Swiss-French immigrant, Paul de Castella. He increased the vineyard by a further 20 hectares, sourcing vines from around the globe including some from Chateau Lafite. A jewel in the Yarra Valley crown, Yering Station produces world-class cool climate wines from its revered vineyards which are famously abound with expressive varietal flavour and integrity.
