Summer of 69 Verdelho – A bouquet of honeysuckle and lemon followed by a sherbet edge. Fresh pineapple and white peach fill out the flavours giving the wine a light, summer feel. The name was inspired by the date of birth of the owner Sarah Marquis. The Hippy era, peace, love and good times. The wine inspires these feelings. The summer of love and San Francisco spring to me and the wine promotes this beautifully. Wine for flowers in the hair.
Summer of ’69 was inspired by owner Sarah Marquis’ birth year. She wanted to celebrate this era of peace, love and good times.
Fruit is picked overnight to retain fresh fruit flavours and acid balance. Oxidative processed, lightly pressed and racked before fermenting with a selected yeast in stainless steel. The grapes were grown on the Gemtree
Vineyard in McLaren Vale.

The vineyards are situated on the magical Seaview Ridge, which with its ancient soils and Mediterranean climate, is home to some of the most iconic Australian wines. There are three separate vineyards – Long Gully Road, Coppermine Road and the Home Blocks, giving us a total of 114 acres of Shiraz, Cabernet and Merlot. All of the grapes are grown sustainably.

Mollydooker (Aussie for left hander, because Sarah is left handed) was established in March 2006 in the McLaren Vale, with a state-of-the-art winery and 114 acres of vineyards on the magic Seaview Ridge – home to most of the iconic McLaren Vale wines. Sarah is the sole owner and winemaker, running Mollydooker with the help of her team who continue to make the handcrafted wines for which they are rightly famous.

Sarah & Sparky Marquis have built their latest brand, ‘Mollydooker’, after ten years working on other projects. These wines come from some of the best grape growing regions, McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek & Padthaway in South Australia. The grapes arebhand selected their finest vineyards and these wines are a true testament to their commitment to excellence in the winery and our vineyard program. The award-winning wines from Mollydooker include Carnival of Love, Enchanted Path and The Boxer. There are several other tremendous wines in the portfolio.
The wines are very distinctive and made in the unique Mollydooker Fashion. Full of flavour and body and aerated in the unique fashion of the Mollydooker shake.
The business is family owned and is now run by Sarah with the help of her children.

The McLaren Vale is predominately a red wine region, producing some of the best red wines in South Australia. Vineyards were first planted in the mid 1800s. One of the early pioneers Thomas Hardy established a business that evolved to BRL Hardy, one of the largest wine companies in the country. The region also has a healthy number of boutique wineries that consistently make fine wines and experiment with different wine styles. The climate is warm to hot with dry summers, and benefits from cooling breezes from the St Vincent Gulf. The main wine styles: Red – Shiraz (rich, ripe & generous), Cabernet Sauvignon; White – Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc.

Verdelho was considered so well suited to the Australian climate that it was among the first whites to be imported (c. 1825). Australia is now said to produce some of the world’s better examples of this variety.”
