Peter Lehmann 8 Songs Shiraz

Peter Lehmann 8 Songs Shiraz – A tribute to the great Shiraz vineyards of the Barossa, the inspiration of this unique Barossa Shiraz comes from the entwined story of England’s `Mad King`, George III, the operatic collaboration of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies and Randolph Stow and the visual art of Rod Schubert which all came together in a seamless symphony from the Barossa Music Festival. The epitome of what the Barossa does so well, Eight Songs Shiraz is luxuriant, sumptuous and brings to the palate all the musky spices that mark a truly great shiraz.

A rich and fragrant nose with abundant dark fruit, plum, blueberry, all spice and dusty cedar notes. The palate is all about texture and mouthfeel, with rich ripe plums, dark red fruits, creamy chocolate, silky tannin and a pure fruited long savoury finish.

A perfect match with chargrilled meats and vegetables. There’s something special about rich, ripe Barossa tannins and the smoky, sweet grilled flavour from the barbeque! For a special treat, pair with charcoal-roasted scallops with yuzu beurre blanc and chives!

Sourced from longest-standing loyal Peter Lehmann growers, Peter Scholz (Willows Vineyard and Light Pass), Mike McCarthy (Bethany), Simon Hahn (Nuriootpa), Mark Mader (Light Pass), Ralph Schrapel, (Ebenezer). The grapes are harvested in the morning. Then fermented on skins for up to two weeks. Individual components were pressed and transferred to barrel for MLF fermentation. Following MLF, the wine batches for Eight Songs were selected at their annual classification tasting, then blended and matured for a further 18 months in 40% new French oak hogsheads (60% older).

Barossa is one of the only wine regions in Australia to have neighbouring warm and cool climate growing conditions. Barossa Valley enjoys a warm Mediterranean climate characterised by hot dry summers, relatively low rainfall and low humidity, providing perfect conditions for growing grapes. The lower Barossa floor is drier, warmer and is ideally suited to growing iconic full bodied Shiraz. The higher altitude Eden Valley region has a cooler climate with abundant winter rainfall. The soil in Eden Valley is rocky and acidic, with shallow rock and shale that creates world class Rieslings.
Peter Lehmann Wines works collaboratively with over 140 growers across the length and breadth of the region, many of whom have been involved with the Peter Lehmann story for decades. Through these strong bonds and generations of working with the region’s finest grape-growers, Peter Lehmann Wines continues to craft a range of premium wines that speak of their origins.

Peter Lehmann Wines

Peter Lehmann’s personal bravery, loyalty and commitment to the Barossa forged the foundations of the winery that bears his name, built in 1979 to protect the livelihood of his mates, the independent Barossa grape growers, and their treasured vineyards. His passion for, and commitment to, the Barossa is infectious and continues with everyone today that is associated with Peter Lehmann Wines, now under the guidance of son Doug Lehmann.

South Australia

The Barossa Valley is one of the major regions in Australia, where many of the major wine companies are based. It is believed the first vineyards were planted in the 1840s by Silesian migrants (who settled in Bethany). There followed a rapid expansion of plantations. The early styles of wines produced were heavy dry red wines and fortified wines that were popular both domestically and in Britain. After the Second World War the styles shifted to lighter table wines with production of Chardonnay, Riesling, Semillon, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. The Barossa Valley is home to some very well known names such as Seppelt, Wolf Blass and Penfolds as well as many smaller producers. The climate is Mediterranean with hot dry summers and cool wet winters, making it ideal for viticulture. The main wine styles: White – Semillon, Riesling, Chardonnay, Semillon-Chardonnay blend; Red – Shiraz (full bodied & ripe) with Old Vine Shiraz a speciality of many vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Shiraz-Grenache-Mataro blend, Cabernet-Merlot blend.
