A medium rich ruby red appearance with a dark centre. The palate is easy drinking ripe and juicy dominated by a mix of red berries and savoury characters with lovely soft tannins and a edge of acidity which complements the dry liquorice and herbal notes. The palate is very fresh and tight. It is quite light due to its youth but there is a moderate level of restrained fruit intensity and ripeness balanced with lovely crunchy acidity which keeps the finish in check.

Winemakers comments
"Black Muscat, another under appreciated muscat variety, is known in Europe as a table grape variety, Muscat Hamburg, one of the very few black skinned muscats. If ripened to about 25 brix, it attains a rose-like aroma and litchi like flavor. This rose-like aroma led us to name the wine Elysium, Greek for heaven. Drinking this, you can almost feel you have fallen into a rose garden and been transported to heaven."

MadFish Wines,
Cabernet Merlot, 2005
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
This traditional blend of three classic grape varieties is designed to produce a wine with a complete palate profile. Cabernet Sauvignon is the structurally strongest variety with good flavour in the early and late part of the taste spectrum backed up by fine tannin. Merlot has less flavour persistence than Cabernet Sauvignon but has wonderful mid palate fleshiness giving a sweet fruit centre to the wine. Cabernet Franc is highly aromatic providing a very attractive addition to the bouquet as well as contributing to the flavour early in the palate profile.

This wine was made in honour of d’Arenberg principal, Francis ‘d’Arry’ d’Arenberg Osborn. It is the culmination of more than half a century d’Arry’s winemaking career at his family winery in McLaren Vale. d’Arry’s original blend, first launched some four decades ago, was as is it appears today- a blend of Shiraz and Grenache grown on d’Arenberg’s low yielding, 19th century vineyards. The d’Arry’s Original has enjoyed huge success at shows through the years and has been fundamental in building the reputation of d’Arenberg.

Love Grass Shiraz, 2007
Shiraz has been the leading variety grown in McLaren Vale since the first plantings in the mid 1800’s. Over the years, as the region has matured, other varieties have emerged and are often used by winemakers in their Shiraz blends. One such example from d’Arenberg is The Love Grass which includes a small percentage of other varieties, those being Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Grenache, Petit Verdot and Pinot Noir.
Much the same way as the Love Grasses in many of d’Arenberg’s vineyards stick to your socks, these other varieties cling to the Shiraz to produce wines that are interesting and expressive blends but are still true to the McLaren Vale style.

Winemakers comments:
`In its youth, The Money Spider Roussanne has a brilliant mid-straw colour with a lifted aromatic mix of flowery notes (cut flower stems), spiced fruit, dried wheat, green almond notes with a citrus/stone fruit mix of peach stones, citrus oil and orange blossoms. As the wine opens up there are edges of grassy, gooseberry herbaceous notes. The palate is youthful and bold with an element of lees characters from fermentation mixed with notes of citrus, dried herb, feijoa, honeysuckle and spice, ending with subtle tannins and a long, dry, slatey mineral green stonefruits/green almond finish. The balance between fruit flavour, density, penetrating length and acidity is superb and very precise. Near perfect already!`

Jim Barry,
Cover Drive Cabernet Sauvignon, 2007
On the southern boundary of Coonawarra is the old Penola cricket ground, which first saw a ball bowled in anger and the flashing cover drives of the local champions in 1950. The ground closed in 1996. Soon after Jim Barry purchased the 30 acre property and planted a Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard.
Today, this vineyard provides some of the fruit for The Cover
Drive Cabernet Sauvignon. Selected parcels of fruit from the Jim Barry family owned Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in the Clare Valley have been blended with the Coonawarra fruit to

McHenry Hohnen Vintners,
3 Amigos Red, 2006
"Three varieties all working together prove very much, that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. There is an earthy, rustic feel about this wine from the first sniff of its deep aromas to the final impression as the last taste of the generous flavours leaves the mouth. The savouriness of the shiraz, the sweet raspberry floral characters of the grenache and the deep earthiness of the mataro are brought together perfectly. A lovely dry mouth feel, with a little fine tannin and crisp acid, sustains a long palate. Excellent drinking in the short term."

3 Amigos White, 2006
Three perfectly compatible grape varieties come together in a wine that is about texture and palate feel. The aroma opens with some slightly nutty, creamy characters showing the influence of barrel fermentation and time on lees. The palate really shines with lovely fine acidity providing a zingy freshness that allows the soft, generous flavours of the three varieties to reveal themselves through perfect integration. The finish is sustained with crisp acid, providing an exquisite lift. This is a beautiful, easy drinking wine that peels off new layers of flavour with each taste.

A little Viognier is blended into this Shiraz, in the same way that they do in Cote Rotie. This adds a little lift to the fruit and improves the aromatic profile of the wine. Not that this particularly needs improving! Full, rich, savoury, fruit filled but not over blown and therefore well balanced and elegant. Aromatic berry, violet and black cherry fruit characters dominate which when combined with the meaty, fine grained oak makes for a beautiful wine.

d’Arenberg,
Sticks & Stones, 2005
d'Arenberg was one of the first to plant Tempranillo in McLaren Vale as this variety appears well-suited to this region, and is a traditional blending partner for Grenache.
The inspiration behind this name came from the age-old proverb ‘sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me.’ The unusual and quirky names that d’Arenberg’s range of wines has never done the winery any harm. They also do use sticks (vine cuttings) planted into stony soils to produce the grapes that result in this wine.

d’Arenberg,
The Galvo Garage, 2006
This wine is a bit outside of d’Arenberg’s normal McLaren Vale throne or 100% cabernet sauvignon wine history. Instead, some of the grapes come from the Adelaide Hills and three new Bordeaux varieties are added (merlot, cabernet franc and petit verdot).
Being a Bordeaux blend and that the term ‘garagists’ is used to describe the producers in Bordeaux making great wines in their garage outside of the ‘Appellation Controlee’ system. The d’Arenberg wines are all made in a small-batch processing, very hands-on way (or feet, as the reds are all foot-trod) as the ‘garagists’ do. The d’Arenberg reds are all made in the old galvanised garage/shed/winery, hence ‘Galvo’.

d’Arenberg,
Derelict Vineyard Grenache, 2006
Some years ago, chief winemaker Chester Osborn, sought out additional super premium Grenache fruit from McLaren Vale to meet the high demand for d'Arenberg’s Grenache-based wines. Many very old vineyards showed promise but had not been used for grape production for decades. Long bracken ferns and native grasses were taking over and the vines themselves resembled Medusa’s hair - wild, struggling and gnarled. This was the inspiration in the naming of this wine. Taming and rejuvenation of these vineyards has patiently occurred over several years although some vines still look rather hard-done-by and only produce very low yields of exceptional quality.

d’Arenberg,
The Laughing Magpie Shiraz / Viognier, 2007
Winemakers comments:
`Very dark saturated appearance and a violet-crimson hue suggesting a complex dry red. The aroma is very intense with mix of dark Maraschino cherries, spiced fruit skins and obvious notes of apricot stones, crushed ginger and mandarin peel. As the wine opens up further notes of black roasted teas, black olive and smoky tarry notes evolve with a fragrant lift of violets and lilies. The palate is full flavoured with ripe, juicy, soft, mouth-filling, fruit flavours with notes of cranberries, blueberries, blackcurrants, cherries and dark chocolate/carob. The herbaceous edges keep the palate in check. Overall balance is excellent with the oak suppressed by dark fruit while the floral tea-like tannins are abundant and silky acidity gives the wine great definition. The finish is long, juicy and pointed with blackcurrant and jube flavours and a mineral note pushing through.`

Grosset,
`Springvale` Watervale Riesling, 2009
The 2009 Grosset Springvale is quite closed and restrained at present, has pure intense lemon juice and lime flavours with slatey, minerally notes, is powerful, tight and steely with taut, dry, mouth-puckering acidity that lingers. It is fine and succulent with a zesty persistence that takes the wine deep and long.
The wine has a very deep black appearance with a wonderful crimson deep cherry red hue. Intense aromas of ripe, blackberry fruits, liquorice appear first followed by prune-like notes with deep spicy plum pudding characters. As it opens, deeper blackberry mulberry fruits with anise evolve combined with a lifted (and slightly ‘taily’) brandy spirit which is most appealing. The initial attack of primary fruit flavours, combined with the integrated, unwooded brandy spirit ensure the palate is full-flavoured balanced with very fine, almost tea-like tannins and the dry impact of the spirit. John Duval Wines,
Plexus, 2007
John Duval was the Grange winemaker from 1986 till 2002. He is one of the world’s great winemakers who set out on his own with the 2003 vintage, sourcing fruit from some long-time friends in the Barossa.
Winemakers comments: "The aim of Plexus is to express the wide spectrum of red fruit flavours from Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre but also to provide serious structure with a seamless balance and a long finish. A low percentage of new oak adds subtle complexity rather than dominate the berry fruit. Traditional low intervention winemaking techniques are employed with Plexus, allowing the wine to be approachable in its youth but also with great potential for improvement in the bottle under good cellaring conditions for at least 8-10 years."

Glenguin Wines,
Stonybroke Shiraz Tannat, 2006
Predominately Shiraz wine blended with a smidgen of Tannat that offers hours of enjoyment. Oozing with aromas of cherry, blackberry, and raspberry fruits, broken up by a sprinkling of cracked pepper spice. The palate is crammed with similar fruit flavours, laced with liquorice and savoury herbal notes, supported by a firm sturdy framework of espresso infused tannins. The finish is long and lingering, drying slightly on the end.
Ripassa has a deep ruby-red colour, with an intense, persistent bouquet. It is a full bodied, harmonic and velvety smooth.
A close relation to Amarone, Ripassa takes its name from the ancient process of Ripasso, literally meaning repassed. After the Valpolicella is fermented, it is put into vessels recently vacated by the Amarone. The wine soaked skins and lees that remain in these vessels initiate a slight refermentation, subsequently increasing both the alcohol and body of the wine.

Cullen Wines,
Mangan, 2007
Malbec, Petit Verdot and Merlot are three varieties that are particularly well suited to growing in the Margaret River winegrowing region. When blended together these varieties form a divine trinity creating a unique wine. The Malbec provides the fruit power and colour, the Petit Verdot the length and texture and the Merlot the structure. The fruit which made this wine came from a single vineyard in the Wilyabrup subregion of Margaret River belonging to Rick Cullen and Bettina Mangan. A wine with great drinkability and ageing potential.

With a powerful and intriguingly complex nose this wine is full of chocolate, earth and plum notes intermixed with rich oak aromas. This harmonious blend of Shiraz, Cabernet and Merlot fills your mouth with layers of savoury fruit, and boasts an incredibly rounded mouth fell and a silky smooth finish.
The name derives from the medieval castle La Rocca, which over looks the small town of Soave. Nino Pieropan's attention to detail is outstanding and it shows in the quality of this wine. The vineyards are planted primarily with Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave, Garganega giving structure and acidity to the wines, the Trebbiano di Soave allowing perfume and richness of flavour.

Grosset,
Piccadilly Chardonnay, 2006
The 2006 Grosset Piccadilly Chardonnay has a characteristic tightness of structure, restraining the flavours in a tight coil that time will only slowly release. The cedary oak is subtle considering the wines youth - with a mere whisp of cedar setting off its cool tropical flavours. It has a delicate white peach, nectarine and grapefruit flavours and some slatey, minerally notes and crisp, cleansing acidity on an ultra-dry finish. There is a richness and concentration of flavour, weight and power too. The wine promises complexity once the vibrance of youth is replaced by a creamy texture and satisfying mouthfeel. As with previous Piccadilly Chardonnays, the 2006 needs a couple of years to show its best but holds that peak for some considerable time. Winemakers comments:
`A very dark almost black appearance with a dense purple-red hue. The aroma upon opening is very intense with a complex combination of fragrant spices, red fruits, plum dark cherries, cranberry and blueberry notes with a back drop of very fine oaks, liquorice, white pepper, boot-polish and edges of parsley stalks. The taste is rich, gutsy and virile, dominated with red fruits, cherries, plums and dried black olive. The palate is very controlled, tight and has a wonderful liveliness about it. Even the tannins feel cool and silky with mineral grittiness and wonderful acidity. The length is excellent and beautifully pointed with soft red fruit flavours and spice suggests this wine will have great ability to age.`

Two Hands,
Lily’s Garden McLaren Vale Shiraz, 2006
Brilliant, smart black with red flints in colour. A bouquet of caramel, mocha, fresh coffee beans, liquorice and a ripe mint, backed by intense dry prunes and a lifted spice. The palate is thick, concentrated and viscouse. The fruit weight is very powerful and the juicy texture coats your mouth, leaving you with an extremely long finish that is balanced and well rounded. This is a very exciting wine.

Winemakers comments
`Every spring we select a few of our finest barrels of Shiraz to become base wines for this bottle fermented sparkling wine. Base wines are matured in seasoned French oak hogsheads for up to three years before being tiraged in the traditional champagne method. Following this second fermentation the wine is left to mature in the bottle on lees for 10 months before disgorgement and liquoring with very old Australian vintage port (ranging in age from 14 to 40 years).`

Two Hands,
Max’s Garden Heathcote Shiraz, 2006
Two Hands Garden Series wines are named after the proprietor's nearest and dearest and the birth of Max yielded up an opportunity to release a new wine from the much heralded Heathcote region in Victoria. Characteristically dense and concentrated, the cooler climate in Heathcote leads to a more lifted, aromatic and spicy profile whilst still having that luxurious, plush fruit that is the Two Hands textural signature.

Costa di Bussia,
Barolo Riserva DOCG, 2000
Complex aromas of crushed flowers, plums and fresh-cut porcini with evident hints of mint. Full-bodied, concentrated, with amazing tannins and superripe fruit. Long, very ripe and almost jammy finish, great length.
“This is one of the most elegant reds I've had from Australia, with ripe, perfumed, cassis, but less eucalyptus mint seen in wines of nearby Coonawarra. Decant it and the initial fruit gives way to even more complexity than first promised.”

Katnook Estate,
Prodigy Shiraz, 2005
This ultra-premium Coonawarra Shiraz entered the market with a bang, taking out the 1998 Jimmy Watson Trophy with its first vintage off new vines.
Although Coonawarra’s reputation as the ideal terroir for Cabernet Sauvignon is well known, it also produces world class Shiraz. The variety is perhaps more challenging in the Coonawarra but when it all comes together Coonawarra Shiraz truly comes into its own,” says Wayne Stehbens
"The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz The Signature reveals more purple in its color along with a cooler climate mouthfeel, massive, concentrated blackberry and cassis fruit, and additional floral and cherry notes. Full-bodied and rich, with good freshness as well as huge concentration and length, it should drink well for 15-20 years."

The Armagh, 2006
The Armagh has a reputation for excellence renowned throughout the world.
The 2006 Armagh is dense and purple in colour. It is an elegant and aristocratic kaleidoscope of aromas, an abundance of fruit flavours; blackberry, mulberry and blueberry with supporting complexity of mint, eucalypt, rhubarb, turkish delight and cinnamon. The palate is a rich tapestry of enjoyment and fulfilment with flavours of raspberry, strawberry and boysenberry with the closing argument of star anise, rosemary, spearmint and clove.
