Vineyards were planted as early as 1848 but these early estates did not see past 1945. The resurgence started in the 1960s when the French Remy Martin group established vineyards to produce brandy. They eventually changed course with the changing consumer market, producing sparkling and table wines at Chateau Remy, now Blue Pyrenees Estate. Other wineries set up in the 1970s proving its an ideal region for full-bodied reds. The climate is regarded as temperate with variations due to altitude. The main wine styles: Red – Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon; White – Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc; Sparkling.
