Cullen Mangan Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc Semillon

Cullen Mangan Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc Semillon

Cullen Mangan Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc Semillon

An intense, aromatic nose of lime and green pineapple. The palate is a rich and flavoursome blend of paw paw, lime and nougat with a touch of spice. The good acid ensures that the finish is delightfully crisp.

As usual, this blend of Cullen Mangan Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc Semillon contains a greater volume of Sauvignon Blanc than Semillon, which reflects the outstanding qualities of the fruit produced by the former variety on the Cullen Vineyard, while recognising that it can still be enhanced by the complimentary characteristics of the latter variety. The fruit was picked at optimal ripeness, which was represented by Baume’s of 9.9° – 13.5°.
Complexity and completeness have been enhanced through maturing some of the wine in new oak.

Bouquet: Delightful combination of fresh cut grass, spicy and vanillin oak aromas supported by tropical notes.
Palate: Deep, rich and vibrant fruit lifted by mineral flavours. Very complex already with lovely fruit notes and toasty characteristics. Barrel fermentation is already playing second role.
A brilliant example of this classic blend.
Cellar: Enjoy now or for up to 15 years.

The maritime climate of Margaret River allows a near perfect environment in which to grow the finest quality grapes.
The rocky soils produce low yielding intensely flavoured grapes and the flavour of these grapes is what creates the fabric for the wine style at Cullen.
The vines are dry farmed, helping to ensure maximum fruit quality, and all pruning and harvesting are done by hand with great care. Quality is paramount and when the hand-harvested grapes arrive at the winery from the vineyard, they are sorted again to ensure that only the best goes into the bottle.
Biodynamic practices and minimal intervention apply to both vineyard and winery with all wines being naturally fermented.
As time passes, a greater understanding of the vineyard and grapes is gained and this makes possible the creation of a more individual wine style.

Cullen Wines

One of Australia’s best small wineries. In 2000 winemaker Vanya Cullen became the Qantas/The Wine Magazine Winemaker of the year. She was the third recipient of this prize, the first Western Australian and the first woman to win the award. Vanya is the daughter of Di & Kevin Cullen, who were the first to plant a commercial vineyard in Margaret River (1966).

Western Australia

Regarded as one of Australia’s best wine producing regions. It is synonymous with a new era in Australian wine. Margaret River really began its vineyard life as a result of two research reports from Californian viticulturalist Professor Harold Olmo and the Western Australian scientist Dr John Gladstone. In 1965 Dr Gladstone’s report indicated that the region had all the attributes to produce world quality wines. This advise was acted on by Dr Tom Cullity who set up his Vasse Felix vineyard near Willyabrup, followed by Dr Kevin Cullen and his wife Di who set up Cullen Wines. The climate is regarded as ‘cool’ because of its long slow ripening season. This region is regarded along with Coonawarra and the Yarra Valley as one of the premium Cabernet Sauvignon areas in Australia. The main wine styles: Red – Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet-Merlot, Shiraz; White – Chardonnay, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc, Verdelho.
