Stump Jump Lightly Wooded Chardonnay by d'Arenberg

Stump Jump Lightly Wooded Chardonnay by d’Arenberg

Stump Jump Lightly Wooded Chardonnay by d’Arenberg

Very aromatic to start, lifted citrus blossom mix with white peaches and nectarines. Fresh and zesty on the palate, the oak lends support and gives a lovely creamy mouthfeel with texture and spice.

The name ‘Stump Jump’ pays homage to a significant South Australian invention – the Stump Jump plough. As well as clearing the land around McLaren Vale, it was adopted worldwide in the late 19th century because of its ability to ride over stumps and gnarled roots, saving faremers valuable time and energy. The design of this label is inspired by an optomertist’s eyechart and serves as a makeshift sobriety test. If you can hold the bottle at arm’s length and still read the front lablel, you can enjoy another glass.

Fresh crunchy Chardonnay, full of Granny Smith apple, a squeeze of citrus and a slight brininess that becomes more evident on the palate. Prudent use of well-seasoned French oak adds discreet hazelnut an brioche notes to the mix. The mid palate continues to develop a slight creaminess but the finish remains taught, savoury and long.

A fruit driven yet refreshing Chardonnay. Loads of stonefruit, pear drop, florals and tropical notes. The palate is sleak and long but with enough generosity to round out any harsh edges. A touch of spice and woodiness is added from the subtle use of old French oak, no chariness or sweet coconut character mind you. Clean and fresh and immensely slurpable.

The grapes used in this wine underwent gentle crushing, temperature controlled fermentation and basket pressing prior to bottling.

d'Arenberg

“d’Arenberg is an icon of the McLaren Vale, dating back to 1912. Chief winemaker Chester Osborn is the great-grandson of the founder, Joseph Rowe Osborn. Chester now oversees a stellar (and ever-expanding) range of strangely named and exquisitely crafted red and white wines.
The oldest of the d’Arenberg blocks were first planted in the 1880s with Shiraz, and still contribute to the wines today.”

South Australia

The McLaren Vale is predominately a red wine region, producing some of the best red wines in South Australia. Vineyards were first planted in the mid 1800s. One of the early pioneers Thomas Hardy established a business that evolved to BRL Hardy, one of the largest wine companies in the country. The region also has a healthy number of boutique wineries that consistently make fine wines and experiment with different wine styles. The climate is warm to hot with dry summers, and benefits from cooling breezes from the St Vincent Gulf. The main wine styles: Red – Shiraz (rich, ripe & generous), Cabernet Sauvignon; White – Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc.
