Deakin Estate Viognier

Deakin Estate’s family owned vineyards lie near Mildura in north west Victoria. Here, the mighty Murray River weaves across the land, bringing life to the region and to our vines. Rich, fertile soils and a warm, sunny climate also create a perfect environment for growing quality fruit to make these delicious wines.

Deakin Estate Viognier fruit was picked when quite ripe to achieve a full, viscous style. Grapes were fermented at 16°C with aromatic yeasts, and the juice was left on lees for a few months to build some weight and complexity. The wine was then put on a small amount of French oak to add roundness and texture

Enjoy now or will develop over the next four years.

Deakin Estate

“The Deakin Estate property and its wines are named in honour of that visionary, Alfred Deakin.
Purchased in 1967, Deakin Estate was planted to premium wine grapes which were sold as fruit until 1980 when a winery facility was built. By the time the Deakin Estate range was launched in 1994 some vines had achieved considerable age, whilst newer vines were being planted. Their efforts are focused on producing fruit of the highest quality and expressive wines brimming with flavour and varietal character. “

Viognier

“Acclaimed for the stunning whites it makes in the Rhône, this grape is set for more success in Australia than it’s ever received so far.
Truth is, it’s tricky to grow, however, in Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula and the Eden Valley and McLaren Vale of South Australia, several vineyards have certainly cracked it. Like Chardonnay, Australian Viognier is also great when matured or fermented in oak barrels.”
