The Fowles Wine vineyards and winery are located in the dramatic granite landscape of Strathbogie Ranges region of Victoria, Australia. Fowles Wine crafts some of Australia’s finest cool climate wines, winning many of Australia’s most prestigious wine medals and trophies. Home to Fowles Wine vineyards and winery, the Strathbogie Ranges is characterised by massive granite boulders – the very boulders that have given rise, over millions of years, to the sandy loam soils in which our vines grow. This is a harsh Australian landscape with soil that is nutrient poor and retains very little water – difficult for farmers to grow livestock, but a wonderful landscape for grape growers seeking to grow fruit with great intensity. Couple these attributes with the cool climate, gentle aspect and glorious summer sunshine and the Strathbogie Ranges is an ideal region for growing grapes and making wine. The mean January temperature is 19.15°C and the average annual rainfall in our family vineyards is 700 mm (28 inches). Harvest in the Strathbogie Ranges generally occurs from late February through to early May.

Full-bodied yet well-corseted Chardonnay from Victoria in south-east Australia, creamy and tropical, with peach, papaya and a trace of biscuit.

Fowles Wine

Fowles Wine comes from the very cool-climate of the Strathbogie Ranges in Victoria. Amongst other innovations, they have pioneered wine specifically blended to match wild game. Whilst winning many of the best ‘traditional’ awards in the Australian wine scene and being named a “Winery to Watch” by Wine Spectator, Fowles Wine has a culture of doing things differently! (They are also the largest winery in Australia controlled by Gen Y.)

Victoria

Victoria is a small state in area, but home to possibly the largest number of wineries in Australia, most of them which are small family-run operations. Victoria’s diverse topography, combining numerous mountain ranges, like the Grampians and the Victorian Pyrenees throughout the centre; flat plains in the northeast; and hilly, ocean-cooled reaches in the Melbourne area, make its vineyards amongst the most scenic in Australia. An enormous range of wine styles are available, and virtually every varietal flourishes in some part of the state.

Chardonnay

Australia’s most widely planted white grape variety. The heavily oaked styles of the earlier nineties are now being replaced with styles emphasising the regional fruit and greater complexity. The cooler climate regions producing styles of great elegance and finesse.
