John Duval Plexus White

John Duval Plexus White

John Duval Plexus White

The objective of our Plexus white is to create a textured wine with vibrant expression of fruit aroma on the nose, and a palate of great flavour and structure enhanced by crisp acidity. Partial oak fermentation and
maturation along with lees ageing promotes a seamless integration of the varietal components and enhances the textural elements of the blend.
Dry conditions for the second year in a row presented some challenges, with yields again well down. Despite the dry conditions, February and March were cooler than average, providing a long and even ripening period.
The resulting wines are of very high quality, with great purity and depth of fruit characters.
Marsanne69%,Roussanne 16% Viognier15%
Marsanne was sourced from Marananga, Roussanne from Kalimna and Viognier from Eden Valley. The Roussanne component is less than previous years, the site particularly effected by two years of dry conditions.
Gentle pressings were combined with free run juice and cold settled. Fermentation commenced in stainless steel but some of the Marsanne finished
fermentation in and was aged in puncheon. The remaining Marsanne and the Roussanne was aged on lees in tank until bottling. 50% of the total blend was
aged in fine-grain French oak (20% new puncheons) for a total of 6 months

Nose: Vibrant and lifted aromas of ripe nectarine and peach, ginger flower, citrus and florals.
Palate: Elegant palate of excellent fruit purity. Flavours of peach, nectarine, mandarin with subtle baking spice on the finish.
Will build texture and reward cellaring over the next 5+ years

John Duval Wines

“John Duval started work at Penfolds in 1974, and worked with the legendary Max Schubert and Don Ditter in the formative years of his career. He took over from Don Ditter as chief winemaker in 1986,a post he held until November, 2002. As chief winemaker, he was responsible for the production of Grange and the other legendary red wines from Penfolds. He was twice named Red Winemaker of the Year at the International Wine Challenge.
The 2003 vintage was the first vintage of his own label, made with fruit sourced from some long-time friends in the Barossa. “

South Australia

The Barossa Valley is one of the major regions in Australia, where many of the major wine companies are based. It is believed the first vineyards were planted in the 1840s by Silesian migrants (who settled in Bethany). There followed a rapid expansion of plantations. The early styles of wines produced were heavy dry red wines and fortified wines that were popular both domestically and in Britain. After the Second World War the styles shifted to lighter table wines with production of Chardonnay, Riesling, Semillon, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. The Barossa Valley is home to some very well known names such as Seppelt, Wolf Blass and Penfolds as well as many smaller producers. The climate is Mediterranean with hot dry summers and cool wet winters, making it ideal for viticulture. The main wine styles: White – Semillon, Riesling, Chardonnay, Semillon-Chardonnay blend; Red – Shiraz (full bodied & ripe) with Old Vine Shiraz a speciality of many vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Shiraz-Grenache-Mataro blend, Cabernet-Merlot blend.
