Rolf Binder EV Riesling

Rolf Binder EV Riesling

An outstanding Eden Valley Riesling from Christa Deans, known worldwide for her expertise with this varietal.
As a young wine, this 2019 Riesling is delightfully aromatic, displaying delicate rose floral and musk aromas on the nose. It has a good acidity with vibrant lemon/lime citrus and Fuji apple flavours that linger well on the palate.

Vintage conditions
Wines from the Barossa and Eden Valley’s 2019 vintage will be of very high quality but of limited supply. With a very dry winter and spring; frost events in September and November disrupted bud burst and flowering; hot, dry conditions in January and February also contributed to 2019 being recorded as the lowest-yielding Barossa harvest of the past decade.
Vinification details
The four vineyard blocks were harvested from the 12th to 22nd March and the batches of fruit were processed and fermented seperately in the winery. The resulting wines were blended together and then bottled the first week of July.

Christa and Rolf form the heart of Rolf Binder wines, continuing a family wine-making tradition that spans nearly 60 years. Their parents arrived in Australia in 1950 – just two amongst the many post-war immigrants from Europe – and met a grape grower in the Barossa while working to help pay for their assisted passage. From such unlikely beginnings, a passion for the Barossa was born, a winery was purchased and a new life began. They soon came to appreciate the riches of the Barossa, the old vine Shiraz, Mataro and Grenache, and were at the forefront of many old vine varietal blends. Now Christa and Rolf are taking the winery into the 21st century, with Rolf forging a world-wide reputation for his red wines while Christa takes the plaudits for her white wines.

The Eden Valley is between 400 and 600 metres in the Barossa Range, part of the Mount Lofty Range. It shares it historical roots with the Barossa Valley. Yalumba has substantial vineyard holdings, and a winery at Angaston, the site of the first vines planted by founder Samuel Smith in 1849. The cool climate provides ideal conditions for the production of high quality Riesling, Chardonnay and Shiraz wine.

Riesling

Possible one of the greatest white grape varieties in the world. It can make outstanding wines with power, flavour, elegance, and has the ability to age. The range of styles vary from the light and crisp to rich sweet desert wines.
