Trentham Estate Tumbarumba Chardonnay

Trentham Estate Tumbarumba Chardonnay

Light straw green colour with lifted white peach fruit supported by toasted oak nuances. Persistent clean flavours show an ideal balance of fruit weight and cool climate crispness. A refined elegant Chardonnay.

Tumbarumba Chardonnay comes from a high altitude, eastern-sloping vineyard at the base of the Snowy Mountains National Park, a
cool climate region highly regarded for producing premium Chardonnay. Light straw green colour with lifted white peach fruit supported by toasted oak nuances. Persistent clean flavours show an ideal balance of fruit weight and cool climate crispness. A refined, elegant Chardonnay

Harvested in mid-March the fruit was of exceptional quality with ideal sugar acid balance and elegant stone fruit flavour. The fruit was hand picked and whole bunch pressed into stainless steel tanks for the start of fermentation before being transferred to French oak barrels for a further six months before blending and bottling

The 46 hectares that make up Trentham Estate’s vineyards sit on a winding riverbank at Trentham Cliffs. The ideal terroir of red loam over limestone soils combined with nurturing water from the Murray River allows the vines to flourish.

Meticulously managed by viticulturist Patrick Murphy, the vineyard today comprises over twenty different grape varieties. The oldest vines were planted over half a century ago.
Harvest typically begins at Trentham in mid to late January – slightly earlier than most wine regions of Australia due to the warmer climate of the Murray Darling. Grapes are picked and crushed at optimum ripeness to produce the perfect flavour.

Trentham’ s winery has been operating since 1988, where it has grown from the initial 30 tonne crush to a minimal but state-of-the-art facility handling up to 5,000 tonnes of premium fruit each vintage. It allows the flexibility to perform different winemaking styles, resulting in the diverse and always consistent Trentham Estate wines.

Trentham Estate

Trentham is a small boutique winery located on the banks of the Murray River. It produces wines of outstanding value for money with great varietal fruit flavours.

Tumbarumba

Tumbarumba is one of the newest wine regions, beginning in the early 1980s when Ian and Juliet (now Juliet Cullen) and Frank and Christine Minutello established vineyards. The mid 90s saw the region’s biggest expansion of vineyard development with nearly thirty vineyards producing grapes for sparkling and table wine. Cullen and Cowell sold their vineyard to Seppelt (now Southcorp). The climate is regarded as cool. The main wine styles: White – Sparkling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc; Red – Pinot Noir, Merlot.

Chardonnay

Australia’s most widely planted white grape variety. The heavily oaked styles of the earlier nineties are now being replaced with styles emphasising the regional fruit and greater complexity. The cooler climate regions producing styles of great elegance and finesse.
