Stump Jump Riesling/Marsanne/Sauvignon

Stump Jump Riesling/Marsanne/Sauvignon

This is a fresh, lively medium dry white wine on the palate and already shows a lovely viscous character, then the nuttiness of the Marsanne, while the finish is dominated by the slight talc and sweetness of the Sauvignon Blanc. These flavours are balanced by integrated acidity that doesn’t interfere with the fruit or flavours.

All of the varieties in this blend shine through and contribute to this complex and well-built wine. Lifted fresh cut grass and snap pea aromatics hint at Sauvignon Blanc with lemon and lime sherbet from the Riesling exploding from the glass. The Rhone varieties play lightly on the nose with tropical flowers, fresh pineapple, dry hay, and candied ginger peeking through. The palate shows red apple skins, ripe pear, and white peach with some pithy grapefruit texture, all balanced by some nutty creamy notes. A welcoming hint of the candied ginger returns and lingers on a long, fresh, and vibrant finish. The wine begins with loads of fruit which carries through the palate to a long satisfying finish held tightly poised by a fine and long acid line. This is a seriously enjoyable wine and is the perfect aperitif or accompaniment to summer meals.

The 2016 Vintage started a few days earlier than ever before due to the dry conditions, but relieving rains arrived in late January/ early February, reducing stress for the final stages of ripening. The earlier harvested fruit achieved fruit ripeness at relatively low Baumes due to the rain event. These wines are bright, spicy and vibrant with a lovely long acid and elegance. As vintage progressed the concentration grew and the colour intensified, resulting in more weighty wines without overripe characters.

d'Arenberg

“d’Arenberg is an icon of the McLaren Vale, dating back to 1912. Chief winemaker Chester Osborn is the great-grandson of the founder, Joseph Rowe Osborn. Chester now oversees a stellar (and ever-expanding) range of strangely named and exquisitely crafted red and white wines.
The oldest of the d’Arenberg blocks were first planted in the 1880s with Shiraz, and still contribute to the wines today.”

South Australia

The McLaren Vale is predominately a red wine region, producing some of the best red wines in South Australia. Vineyards were first planted in the mid 1800s. One of the early pioneers Thomas Hardy established a business that evolved to BRL Hardy, one of the largest wine companies in the country. The region also has a healthy number of boutique wineries that consistently make fine wines and experiment with different wine styles. The climate is warm to hot with dry summers, and benefits from cooling breezes from the St Vincent Gulf. The main wine styles: Red – Shiraz (rich, ripe & generous), Cabernet Sauvignon; White – Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc.
