Vasse Felix Idee Fixe

Vasse Felix Idee Fixe

An elegant, expressive and distinct Margaret River Blanc de Blancs made at a new dedicated sparkling house in the region’s south.

Idée Fixe Premier Brut is crafted from house-grown Chardonnay, handpicked from a specialty vineyard in Karridale. Rare quartz based soils, persistent cloud and biting cold winds from the Southern Ocean are favoured by our unique clones of Chardonnay. Heritage at Vasse Felix provides an intimate understanding of Chardonnay growing and winemaking.

Idée Fixe is crafted from the premium, free-run cuvée of handpicked Chardonnay, and meticulous méthode traditionnelle winemaking. A light, elegant form is revealed in the fine, even bead and the brilliant pale yellow hue. The delicate mousse is enhanced by the harmonious structural balance of phenolics and minerality, creating an enticing palate with a citrus-infused acidity, layers of captivating freshness and textural finesse.

The unmistakable DNA of southern Margaret River Chardonnay and its cool, coastal influence runs through the core. Lifted nuances of struck match and wet stone lead into wisps of freshly shucked oysters and ocean mist. Amidst this coastal symphony, tempting notes of yellow plum, Granny Smith apple pie and almond blossom emerge above hints of Allspice biscuit and sourdough. The sea foam mousse dances gracefully along the palate to unfurl a powerful, spacious finish.

The Premier Brut celebrates the fruit’s personality through the conscious direction to make a base Chardonnay of integrity, accentuated with méthode traditionnelle bubbles. A cool, humid growing season followed by moderate ripening conditions in Karridale produced fruit with a bright natural acidity lending perfectly to sparkling wine making. A wine of depth and savoury complexity evolves in the glass over time.

Vasse Felix

Vasse Felix was the first commercial vineyard and winery to be established in the Margaret River region of Western Australia. The wines from this producer have a great reputation for consistent and award winning quality.

Western Australia

Regarded as one of Australia’s best wine producing regions. It is synonymous with a new era in Australian wine. Margaret River really began its vineyard life as a result of two research reports from Californian viticulturalist Professor Harold Olmo and the Western Australian scientist Dr John Gladstone. In 1965 Dr Gladstone’s report indicated that the region had all the attributes to produce world quality wines. This advise was acted on by Dr Tom Cullity who set up his Vasse Felix vineyard near Willyabrup, followed by Dr Kevin Cullen and his wife Di who set up Cullen Wines. The climate is regarded as ‘cool’ because of its long slow ripening season. This region is regarded along with Coonawarra and the Yarra Valley as one of the premium Cabernet Sauvignon areas in Australia. The main wine styles: Red – Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet-Merlot, Shiraz; White – Chardonnay, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc, Verdelho.

Chardonnay

Australia’s most widely planted white grape variety. The heavily oaked styles of the earlier nineties are now being replaced with styles emphasising the regional fruit and greater complexity. The cooler climate regions producing styles of great elegance and finesse.
